Forty-eight teachers attended the 2016 Teacher Seminar to learn more about the oil and gas industry and tour the oilfield last week. More than half of them hailed from eastern North Dakota and got their first look at a producing well, tour a rig site and refinery, and learn how the industry is working to reduce impacts to the surface while increasing production.
Teachers also got to try out some hands-on activities that they can take back to the classroom, including building a model well casing and refinery and mixing a batch of hydraulic fracturing gel. Among the presentations of greatest interest were those centered on job skills and education their students need to pursue a career in the oil and gas industry.
