ALEXANDER & SOUTH HEART GEAR UP FOR COOKFEST

Final preparations are being made for the 7th Annual Bakken Rocks CookFest in this year’s host communities. The anticipated event, which includes a free barbecue, Bakken Basics Information Sessions and live entertainment will be held July 14 in Alexander and July 16 in South Heart. This year’s events will include music by Jessie Veeder with Lonesome Willy in Alexander and Nashville-recording artist Quintana Biffert in South Heart.

Events for kids at CookFest“This event remains a favorite among our companies and a favorite among the communities in the west,” says Tessa Sandstrom, communications manager for the North Dakota Petroleum Council and organizer for the events. “This year is especially important to our members. With the drop in prices and slowdown in activity, we want to tell and show residents that we are still here as part of our communities.”

More than 35 companies are slated to participate in the two events, which are free and open to the public. There will also be games and activities for kids, so families are encouraged to attend.

FIRST LADY BETSY DALRYMPLE CELEBRATES MORE THAN $30,000 IN DONATIONS MADE TO DOLLY PARTON’S IMAGINATION LIBRARY

First Lady Betsy Dalrymple attended public events earlier this month to celebrate significant donations made by Hess Corporation and WPX Energy to establish new Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library programs in Stanley and New Town. The donations are being distributed in partnership with the Souris Valley United Way in Minot.

“Thanks to the generosity of Hess Corporation and WPX Energy, we will be able to send books to even more children through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library,” said Dalrymple. “We are pleased to have been able to establish Imagination Library programs in these two communities and can now ensure their longevity because of community support and contributors like Hess Corporation and WPX Energy.”

The donations are just a few of those given by the oil and gas industry to help spread the program throughout all oil and gas producing counties in North Dakota. Several other companies gave contributions to help fund the program in December of last year including MDU Resources, Enerplus, R360 Environmental Solutions, Continental Resources and Petro-Hunt LLC.

“I’m so happy to join First Lady Dalrymple in announcing new Imagination Library programs in New Town and Stanley,” said Dolly Parton, singer, songwriter and founder of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. “We are so close to our dream of making the Imagination Library available to every child in North Dakota!”

To celebrate the more than $30,000 in donations, Dalrymple will read a children’s book to local children and families at each event.

HESS TOPS LIST OF U.S. ENERGY COMPANIES IN 2015 NEWSWEEK GREEN RANKINGS

Hess Corporation’s logo isn’t all that’s green—so are its operations. Earlier this month, Newsweek ranked Hess first among U.S. energy companies on its 2015 Green Rankings – U.S. 500, one of the world’s most recognized assessments of corporate environmental performance.

The rankings reflect the sustainability and environmental impact of the 500 largest publicly traded companies in the United States by market capitalization. Hess ranked No. 63 across all sectors.

“We are proud of the progress we are making in environmental performance and committed to building a sustainable enterprise that will make a positive difference for our stakeholders and the world around us,” said John Hess, Chief Executive Officer, Hess Corporation.
Based on research from Corporate Knights Capital, along with a “Green Revenue” score from HIP (Human Impact + Profit) Investor Inc., the 2015 ranking features eight indicators that are used to assess and measure environmental performance. The U.S. 500 full list and a detailed description of the methodology are available here.

In April, Hess was ranked first among oil and gas companies on Corporate Responsibility magazine’s prestigious list of 100 Best Corporate Citizens for 2015. In January, the company was the only U.S. oil and gas producer named to the 2015 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations list.

ICYMI – EDUCATORS ACROSS THE STATE COME TOGETHER FOR ENERGY INDUSTRY SEMINAR

Thirty-five teachers gathered in Bismarck last week to learn more about the oil and gas industry and find new ways they can take the lessons of the oilfield back to their classrooms. This included learning about all aspects of oil and gas from their origins in the prehistoric times to its processing into plastics, gasoline and items we use everyday. It also included venturing out onto a well pad to see much of the equipment first-hand.

Dickinson Press reporter Andrew Wernette was able to attend and reports about some teachers’ experience here.
