Patrons who pulled up to the pumps at Pinnacle in Stanley might have been a bit surprised Aug. 11 when greeted by employees offering to fill their tanks and wash their windows.

It was “Throwback Thursday,” a day when Enbridge employees offered the long-gone full service at the pump as a way to spread the “Call Before You Dig” message.

Employees of the pipeline company manned stations in eight cities — Stanley, Minot, Burlington, Berthold, Rugby, Devils Lake, East Grand Forks and Fisher, Minn.

Aug. 11 was National 811 Day, a day to remind people about the importance of calling before digging so that utility companies and other businesses with underground infrastructure can mark the areas to avoid. While helping customers at the pump, Enbridge was also taking the time to communicate directly with those in the public who benefit from pipelines.

“This event is a great way to catch up with our local community members since Enbridge doesn’t have a typical storefront in many of the communities we serve,” said Katie Haarsager, a community relations adviser for Enbridge.
