Silvia Zubke moved from the bustling South American city of Bogota, Colombia to the quiet of North Dakota — or so she thought.
Now, 9 years later, she’s watched Williston undergo a dramatic transformation, and she and her three young sons are some of the faces that have changed it.
North Dakota continues to be a national leader in business according to Forbes, but a recent study conducted by WalletHub, a personal finance website, has also determined it outranks all other states as best to raise a family.
The surge of economic activity as a result of the oil boom provided the revenue to fund infrastructure and quality of life enhancements that left the city fertile for families to put down roots. Record births and student enrollment mirror the surge in family demographics.
Improvements to create a more wholesome family-friendly core is evident throughout the city.
Zubke spent her afternoon at the Williston Area Recreation Center with her three sons, trying their hand at yoga led by ARC trainer, Jenn Shanahan. It’s something she could not have dreamed of doing years ago.
