  • Oil and gas companies collect more than 2,000 winter clothing items for charityOctober 16, 2015

    Oil and gas companies stepped up to spread the warmth this fall by collecting more than 2,000 winter clothing items, including more than 400 coats and 400 pairs of mittens and gloves among other items to deliver to charities in communities throughout western North Dakota.


    “The 1st Annual Spread the Warmth Winter Clothing Drive was a great success, bringing many companies and charities together to collect much-needed cold-weather apparel for kids and families in our communities,” said Tessa Sandstrom, communications director for the North Dakota Petroleum Council (NDPC), which organized the drive.  “We’re very proud of the way our member companies and their employees stepped up to help collect items and make a difference this year.”


    As part of the campaign, companies also went toe-to-toe to see which could collect the most items. One company with 100 or fewer employees and one company with more than 100 employees were awarded $1,000 each to donate to the charity of choice. Whiting Oil and Gas, which also won the food and toy drive last December and the blood drive this past February, collected 635 items total to win the 101+ category and chose to donate its $1,000 to Make-A-Wish Foundation. LTR collected 84 winter clothing items to win $1,000 for the Ronald McDonald House in the category for 100 and fewer employees.


    “We are really proud of our employees as they continue to go above and beyond to give back to our communities,” said Ashley McNamee, Manager of Corporate Relations and Communications for Whiting Oil and Gas. “Even when times are tough they give their own time, money and resources.  We hope it demonstrates to North Dakota that we are committed and that we care about our neighbors.”


    “We are proud to be a part of such great program that helps give back to our communities,” said Casey King, Assistant Branch Manager for LTR in Dickinson, N.D. “Our employees stepped up and were excited to be a part of it.  It’s a great feeling to be able to give to those in need and also to support a great organization in the Ronald McDonald House.”


    The clothing drive began September 1 and wrapped up September 30. Companies were asked to collect clean and new or gently used coats, mittens, gloves, hats, scarves, boots and other winter apparel.


    The Spread the Warmth Winter Clothing Drive is the third joint event organized by the NDPC Energy of North Dakota Committee, which seeks to develop relationships and make a stronger positive impact in North Dakota communities. The 2nd Annual Fuel Food and Fun Drive, which is held in partnership with Toys for Tots and local food pantries, will kick off Nov. 16 and wrap up Dec. 15.
