  • XTO Energy awards $50,000 in grants to Bakken-area charitiesFebruary 9, 2017

DENVER, COLORADO —  XTO Energy Inc., a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil Corporation, today announced it has awarded grants totaling $50,000 to two charities serving communities in the Bakken formation area in North Dakota. These grants are part of XTO’s second-annual “Give Back to the Bakken”grant program.

Community Action Partnership in Dickinson, N.D., and Ronald McDonald House in Bismarck, N.D., each received a $25,000 grant.

“The Bakken community has been very good to the XTO family, and we’re happy to give back to the community so many of our employees call home,”said John Baker, XTO vice president, Western Division. “These organizations provide vital services that address fundamental economic, educational and health needs of those in this community.”

Based in Dickinson, N.D., Community Action Partnership supports low-income families and individuals in eight counties in western North Dakota. The grant will help the organization provide emergency client services, such as rental and utilities assistance, budget counseling, food pantries and mental health resources. The grant will also be used to fund two critical programs: the Prairie Rose Recovery Center, a rehabilitation center that provides services for adults with chronic serious mental illness; and the Safe Cities Coalition, a collaboration to increase awareness of distracted driving, prescription drug abuse and alcohol-impaired drivers.

“Community Action Partnership is grateful to XTO Energy for this award,”said Denise Steinbach, client services director, Community Action Partnership. “CAP receives limited public funds for direct services. We depend on small grants and donations to support client direct services, including financial assistance. XTO’s funds will support client financial assistance program, the Safe Cities Coalition and the Prairie Rose Recovery Center.”

Kathy Keiser, executive director, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Bismarck, said “Ronald McDonald House Charities of Bismarck deeply appreciates the generous Give Back to the Bakken grant from XTO Energy. Our mission is ‘improve the lives of children and their families,’ and this generous grant will enable us to support even more Bakken-area children and their families through our Ronald McDonald House and our Ronald McDonald Care Mobile programs.”

Each year, local XTO employees evaluate the grant applications, and choose the recipients based community needs.

“Our employees care deeply about the health and wellbeing of the people in the Bakken formation area,”Baker said. “The Give Back to the Bakken grants is our way of connecting with the communities where we do business, and help build stronger communities.”
